When
you do Oracle Certification course you are trained
for SQL, PLSQL as part of first module. PLSQL Introduction
is not necessary for (9i) certification but it is
necessary for an Oracle DBA to have some knowledge
of PLSQL programming which is Oracle's native Programming
language. As SQL is common for all Relational Database
systems, once you learn SQL for Oracle and certify,
you will be considered for other database dependent
jobs too which increases your scope to find job in
other RDBMSs.
When you complete Oracle Database
Fundamental-I (9i) or Admin Workshop-I (10g) module
you really create base for understanding Oracle database
architecture which helps you to understand other certification
module. You learn to do the day to day Database Administrator's
functions like creating database, monitoring database,
monitoring space, managing control files, log files,
archive log files, manage undo segments, manage users
and security etc. Once you pass Fundamental-I or Admin
Workshop-I exam you get Oracle Certified Associate
certificate from Oracle. You feel more confident and
you can talk in Oracle language and start your job
search depending on your background and previous experience.
Job search is recommended after passing all 4 exams
for 9i and 2 exams for 10g which are required for
Oracle Professional certification.
Once you become OCA the next
step to learn about more duties of DBA which are covered
in following modules Fundamental-II and Performance
Tuning in 9i or Admin Workshop-II module in 10g. You
will be taught to do Oracle Database Backup/Recovery,
Network administration related to Oracle client troubleshooting,
Oracle utilities like exp, imp, loader for data migration,
loading also you will be taught to tune SQL statements
and Oracle memory structures. For 10g certification
you will get knowledge on new features introduced
by Oracle in 10g which helps DBA more productive and
proactive.
This way the training
makes you ready for certification and also for job.
As the part of training you will be doing 70% of hands-on
to get real knowledge of DBA duties which will make
you comfortable for certification, interview and job.
As most of the Oracle installations are on Unix platforms
so it's recommended to get trained on Introduction
to Unix. We will train you, on file management, editor
on Unix. As part of project you will be installing
Oracle on Unix and create and configure database.
